The Irish Village

Just returned home after a lovely holiday in RAK. This our umpteenth trip to the UAE and we ALWAYS pop into the Irish Village at the airport for a pint, or two before flying back to the UK. Up until now (20 June 2008), we've always been happy with the place. However, we went in on 20/06/08- The conversation went...
Anthony - Yes?!
Me - May I have a pint of Kronenbourg please?
A - No, no Kronenbourg!
Me - Can I have a pint of Stella then please?
[Slapped on top of counter is +/- 3/4 of a pint]
A - What else?!
Me - A pint of Strongbow please.
[Slapped on top of counter is a pint of Strongbow with the excess flowing over]
A - What else?!
Me - Nothing thank you.
A - 66! [Obviously, I assume this to be a demand for payment in UAE dirhams]
- - I hand over 70 AED. Which is quickly snatched away.
- - I then ask A - Could you please top up the Stella to make a pint?
A - No!
Me - (Now being silly over 4 AED, but principles dictate), Could I please have my 4 AED change then?
A - No, no change!!
No need to go much further, suffice to say, the "Village" in Dubai airport will need to update its staff training regime pretty quickly if it wishes to attract return customers, let alone hold onto the stalwarts who return.

I am a regular at the Dubai Airport Irish Village as I travel the middle east a lot. Last weekend I was there and had a lovely pork chop. All of a sudden heavy metal music was turned on - too loud. I had to ask the manager to turn it down as I believed no one wanted to enjoy their food with the sounds of something being killed in the background!
After waiting for a long time for our drinks to arrive and even longer for the bill to be brought to me, I paid by credit card and didn't think anything of it. I have just checked my bank details and I found that my card was charged 4 times!!!!!!!!! I am now trying to find some way to get in touch with the Irish Village, but have had no luck. It was a week ago so of course I do not still have my receipt. Funnily enough my card was credited ONE of the transactions. I guess they thought that if one transaction was credited I wouldn't mind being ripped off with the other 2 extra amounts!
To end - if you dine here, make sure you ASK how long it will take to bring you a drink and DO NOT let them take your credit card for payment, without watching them swipe it!

Having just read the previous review, I remember my visit to the Irish Village on New Year's Eve in 2005. The food was really wonderful, - but the staff left a lot to be desired. I'll not go into detail, but several altercations made me adamant in my opinion that it was far from Irish hospitality that the staff were raised.
I'm visiting again for Christmas this year, - and may decide to hit the Irish Village for New Year's Eve. Not sure yet.
But hope things have changed...

It is my dream to dine at the Famous "Irish Village".Oneday my Dream came to a reality by chance. We were just looking for something new to have lunch. So me and my colleague pass by Irish village by accident. We decided to have the talk of the town Fish n' Chips,no doubt the food was great. But that dream became a nightmare because of the staff who are not freindly, not smiling and NOT WILLING TO HELP.We decided to transfer inside because its quite humid and the waitress shouted "carry ur drinks bcoz we are not going to transfer it " and 2 more incidents with different staffs.I mean the food and ambiance were great but the staff????? Imagine they are not busy during lunch and we were the only customers.Im sorry but I am really disappointed.

Food is always of a good standard. Hearty, wholesome food with good portions. The Asian Beef Salad is a surprisingly good choice here. If you're missing home cooking, this is the place to go. Great atmosphere for drinking too. Always fun.

Great - excellent food - esp. the fish & chips - good staff & atmosphere.
And best of all there's a great out door area.
Head & shoulders the best Irish bar in Dubai.

The Irish Village alone is a good reason to visit Dubai! The atmosphere is so warm and with such a welcome and friendly staff like Conor and Drew the musician you feel like a regular after 10 minutes. The food is great, sometimes food and drinks aren't that quick to arrive, but then the place has been packed every time I've been there. The resident musician plays great music to suit the crowd but it's always quiet enough to talk all night while sipping on a few cold ones. As it's close to the airport it's always the first and last place we visit when we go to Dubai.

Having visited Dubai in Oct 04 we paid a visit to the Irish Village. We were greeted with a friendly welcome by the doorman at the entrance to the village, the bar staff chatted to us and made us feel as if we had been in the pub every week, they gave us loads of tips on the where to go and what to buy. The food was great, the entertainment was excellent and the surroundings first class. When we visit again in Dec 05, this will be our first stop.
