I visited Anar on the recommendation of a friend who lived in Dubai. The food was enjoyable, although a bit pricey, and service reasonably fast.
Like the previous reviewer, the waterside tables were a major attraction. However, even though we were eating early and the outside tables were empty, the very self-important waitress who seated us refused to allow us to sit outside, claiming the tables were all reserved for 7 pm. We arrived at 5.45 pm and assured her we would be well and truly finished by seven. However, she remained inflexible, and seated us at one of the least pleasant tables that gave us next to no view of the water (but an excellent one of the toilets) - even though there clearly were window view tables available as well.
We finished our meal just before seven, and got the bill about ten minutes later. In that time, the same waitress allowed a Western man to move from an inside table to one of the supposedly reserved outside ones. When my friend queried this, the waitress admitted this man had not booked that table, but nonetheless those tables had had to remain free. So she basically lied to us, for no apparent reason, unless she thought the man would tip her better. It was a minor thing in the scheme of things, but it was unfortunate, and completely irrational.
Overall, not bad, but not as nice as I expected.
